Bartolomeo Campomenoso (Antwerp, 23 March 1597 - Aartselaar, 26 April 1670) was a Flemish merchant and priest of Italian origin. Biography Bartolomeo Campomenoso was a 17th century Antwerp merchant. The family was originally from Genoa and belonged to the Italian colony in Antwerp. He traded in different products and he was active in the exchange market at the head of the company founded by his father Cipriano Campomenoso. On January 21, 1626, he acquired the lordship of Kauwerburg in the Waasland region, which spanned seven villages (Temse, Baersele, Tielrode, Elversele, Lokeren, Smael and Haasdonck). Unfortunately the management of the company turned out to be a complete failure and Bartholomeo quickly dilapidated the capital accumulated by his father. Attempts to avoid bankruptcy through the purchase of some Antwerp glassworks and the supply of material to the Spanish army stationed in Flanders did not produce the expected effects. After the bankruptcy all merchants of Antwerp trusted him anymore, consequently Bartholomeo had to move to Aartselaar, to his lordship of Heysselaer, and on June 20, 1641 he was appointed there as lieutenant of the falconers. In 1655 he decided to take vows and in 1656 he was ordained a priest.
