B.J. Harrison is a fictional character from the film The Godfather Part III. He is portrayed by actor George Hamilton. Role in the story B.J. Harrison is the Corleone crime family's legal and financial adviser, who took over the role from Tom Hagen in the 1970s. However, he never officially achieves the role of consigliere, as he does not have a Sicilian background. (Although his predecessor, Hagen, was of German-Irish descent, an exception was made for him because he had been adopted into the Corleone family like a son.) Harrison represented Don Michael Corleone's desire to legitimize the Corleone family. Harrison performs most of the negotiations with the owners of International Immobiliare, and is frustrated by the growing conspiracy to defraud the conglomerate, led by Licio Lucchesi, Frederick Keinszig and Archbishop Gilday. Harrison is present with Michael Corleone and his family at the Teatro Massimo when Mary Corleone is killed in a failed assassination attempt on Michael. Behind the scenes Robert Duvall refused to reprise his role in the production of The Godfather Part III as Tom Hagen, due to salary disputes, hence why Francis Ford Coppola, director of The Godfather trilogy, created the Harrison character.
