Avani Singh is the Chief Executive Officer of SpiceHealth, a healthcare company aimed at providing affordable and accessible diagnostic services. At the peak of the first wave of COVID-19 in India, Avani Singh led a disruption of the COVID-19 testing space in India by deploying mobile testing laboratories and following a hub-and-spoke model for sample collection and testing. These innovations greatly reduced the cost of a COVID-19 RT PCR test and brought down the delivery time for the test results from 24-48 hours to less than six hours. Stanford University Occupation Entrepreneur Parent(s) Ajay Singh]] Early life and education Avani was born in Delhi. Her father, Ajay Singh, is the Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet. She completed her schooling from Modern School, Barakhamba Road. In school, she founded a non-profit called ‘Ummeed’ with the mission to empower economically disadvantaged women. Her non-profit was featured in TED Blogs, among other publications and she was featured in Buzzfeed’s list of ‘25 women under 25 everyone should look up to'. She then went on to complete her Bachelor’s and her Master’s degrees from Stanford University in the US. While at Stanford, she was involved in philanthropy through her sorority to help young children affected by cancer, was awarded the ‘student activities and leadership fellowship,’ was involved in research at the Graduate School of Business and the Psychology department and internships at JetBlue Technology Venture and the United Nations. Career After graduating from Stanford University, Avani started working as a Business Analyst at McKinsey & Company in New Delhi. At a time when Covid-19 was at an all-time high in India, she left her job in October 2020 to launch SpiceHealth, disrupting the RT-PCR testing space by offering tests in mobile laboratories at Rs. 499, as opposed to the then existing rate of Rs. 2400 in Delhi. Also, the test results were made available within six hours as compared to the existing 24-48 hour time frame. It was also Avani's vision to introduce the innovative concept of mobile testing laboratories that could be placed in remote areas, in containment zones, in villages where access to hospitals and medical facilities was and remains a challenge. SpiceHealth has conducted around 3.5 million RT-PCR tests in the short period since its launch, helping bring down Covid-19 testing cost dramatically across the country. The mobile laboratories ensured scalability and the low price ensured affordability. The Company has scaled up its operations considerably and is currently operating 21 labs and collection centers across nine cities in India. SpiceHealth has also been working closely with the Sports Authority of India for testing its staff and athletes at its various training camps across the country and worked with several IPL teams to test their players and support staff during IPL 2021. Under Avani's leadership, SpiceHealth has been working closely with multiple State Governments and hospitals to beef up the supply of oxygen concentrators, ventilators, pulse oximeters, BiPAPs and other medical devices during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Company imported more than 2000 oxygen concentrators for emergency use and distribution across India. With the discovery of newer strains of the COVID-19 virus, Avani saw the need to swiftly identify these newer strains in passengers flying in from abroad. In January 2021, SpiceHealth launched a first-of-its-kind genome sequencing laboratory at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport to help in identifying and containing the new mutant variants of Covid-19 virus unwittingly carried by passengers travelling from other countries. In February 2021, the Company announced a tie-up with the Uttarakhand government to help test the large number of pilgrims attending the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar.
