Australasian College of Phlebology

The Australasian College of Phlebology (ACP) was founded in 1993 and is the largest phlebology society in Australia and New Zealand. It is a nonprofit organisation founded to establish and maintain high standards of learning skill and conduct in the practice of phlebology. The ACP has established one of the most comprehensive training programs for medical practitioners who wish to specialize in this field. The ACP actively promotes education and research in phlebology and serves the general public as a resource regarding vein disorders. Public educational initiatives such as lectures, workshops and media interviews are undertaken by College Fellows on a regular basis, as well as annual international conferences. The College also provides a valuable source of information to government and industry concerning venous disease and new developments.
History
The ACP officially came into being on 1 July 2001, having developed from an earlier organisation known as the Sclerotherapy Society of Australia. The Sclerotherapy Society was formed in 1994 with the intention to counterbalance the surgical emphasis of the well-established Australian and New Zealand Society of Phlebology, which at the time was and exclusive organization, only admitting surgeons. The creation of the Sclerotherapy Society opened this field of medicine to a much wider range of doctors with general physicians, dermatologists, haematologists, and radiologists as well as vascular physicians and vascular surgeons becoming members.
