Audible DRM

Introduction

Audible.com is a company that sells Audio Books over the internet, the books it sells are distributed in Audibles proprietry .aa file format. The .aa format contains the audio data in either MP3 or ACELP format which is encrypted.

Activation of Devices

In order to play .aa files the device playing the files must be activated with one of the Audible programs. The audible servers generate a DSA Digital Signature which ties the player to the account.

Removal of DRM

Several methods exist for removing Audibles DRM, the simplest option is simply burning the .aa format tracks to CD's and then ripping the CD's to mp3 or another audio format. Other options include using software such as GoldWave.
