Attila wind

Attila Wind (known as Tico) was born in 1980, in Budapest. He starts listening to his uncle’s records at the age of eight, e.g. Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar, and Pink Floyd. He spends his childhood with listening to these rock albums. He prepares his first electric guitar from an old acoustic Russian guitar. He fixes a microphone to the inner side of the acoustic guitar, and he starts recording his own songs, and later he shows these songs to his friends. But only in 1991, he decides to form a rock band, after the release of Nirvana’s Nevermind. He becomes crazy about one song called ’Smells Like Teen Spirit’. "This is the song of my generation!" He becomes totally enthusiastic about Nirvana, he starts becoming a real fan. Therefore it’s obvious to be a singer-guitarist. But only in 1996, he decides to learn playing the guitar at a local classic music school called Erkel Ferenc Zeneiskola, but after one year, he decides to finish it, because their teachers don’t suggest him to continue the school. ’I’m fed up with learning folk songs, I want to concentrate on my own band!" Therefore he starts forming a real rock band with his class mates. First with David Hammermann, form Dark Angel in 1997. They make a home-made demo with Hungarian lyrics (this is the first and the last time, when Tico writes lyrics in his mother language - I like the Hungarian language, but the English fits better the rock music). He plays the guitar and sings, while David plays the piano. But Tico is not satisfied with the project, therefore he decides to form another band.

It takes time, so only in 1999, with Bálint Hamvas, his class mate, forms a band. They call it Ansellia, Tico chooses the name from a plant dictionary. "I like this name a lot, but nobody understands it!" (That’s also good!) In 1999, they decide to record the first demo called Eunomia. (I’m fanatic about the abstarct Latin names). Eunomia is a concept album, it’s about the seasons and changes of the inner mood. The first song is an intro, called Aurora. The name reflects the spring, the dawning of life. It starts like a dream. The best from these songs is Nadine (Nadine is the ideal woman for Tico, although it’s a platonic love), but as a whole the demo is just the beginning of something, with full of good ideas, but still the concept is not ready. (I like acting as a poet, and I am) "It’s a real concept album, reflects the emotional changes in the human being, like the seasons!" They record it at Bálint’s place in a week, in Budapest. In the fall of 1999, Tico quits the commercial college, and starts to concentrate on the next demo, entitled Vanity Star. (I never read Vanity Fair, but I like this name a lot). In winter Tico starts writing the songs. This is a non-concept album, which is affected by the real Seattle-Grunge era. The demo starts with Let In The Sunshine, which is still one of the most favourite song among the band members. "It’s full of energy!" This demo is full of well-structured, and well-composed songs, like Never Say Die, Here She Comes, Melt Away, Until This Day, and Arvensina. ’Never Say Die’ is about a girl who wants to commit suicide, and finally she finds the way-out ("It’s an important song").

After the recording in the spring of 2000, Bálint introduces Viktor Albert to Tico. Viktor likes the ideas and he joins Ansellia. (Viktor: It’s very similar to Nirvana, but I like it a lot.) They start practising at Viktor’s bungalow in Sadove (Üröm), near Budapest. They play at two concerts, organized by the band members, at Normafa in Budapest. In 2002, they decide to record a promotional demo at Pick-up Studios Budapest, but now with a different name, Dawnstar, Tico translates the Hungarian word ’hajnalcsillag’ literally into English, and creates a non-existing word. Tico: "I want a more popular name, because now we are more direct, than before." The songs are Never Say Die (recorded for the second time), Arvensina (recorded for the second time, but now with different name, Orchidea), Denied Again (a new song), and Under Your Wings (a new song). But finally, they add another song called Flame. They record Flame at home, while Never Say Die at Peter Buza’s Studio (composer of Niteshift). The result is much better than the previous demo, but they still don’t start promoting it. In 2003 they play their first concert in Csepel at the Voodoo Pub 13th December. (It’s the best date to start playing at concerts, I’m not superstitous, but I think it’s a really good date").

In 2004, Tico gets a scholarship to Trieste for four months, and in the same year Bálint goes to Padua for one year. This one and half year of interval risks the future of the band. But the love of their own band is stronger, so after this break they decide to continue the band, but still with less interest. They organize some concerts, but for a bigger one they have to wait until 2005, when they play at Ecofest Budapest (Ökofeszt Gödör Klub) in an anti-globalist festival. Bálint organizes the concert, and one month before the concert it seems that Dawnstar won’t play, because the list of the bands is full. But two weeks before the concert the organizers invite them, because one band quits. So they have to organize everything very fast. One week before the concert, Tico asks her student, Anna Mitropulos, whether she wants to play in his rock band as a pianist, but for only one concert. They practise three times and Anna learns some songs very fast. The concert is successful. They play songs like ’Let The Sun Shine’, ’Never Say Die’, ’Denied Again’, and ’Under Your Wings’. "It is our first real concert, a debut!" From now on we aren’t a grunge band, with the keyboard new years are coming. They don’t have to convince Anna to join the band, because she becomes zealous about Dawnstar.

In 2006 Bálint goes to Denmark, another scholarship which risks the future of the band. In the meantime Tico starts composing four new songs (Don’t Die A Marytr For Me, Change The World, Believe, and Scarlet). In the summer of 2006 Tico insists on recording a new demo with new ideas and seasoning some old songs like Let The Sun Shine, Juliette (with new name and lyrics in Italian, Giulia), and Depression (Splendid Solitude). But the newer songs like Change The World, Don’t Die A Martyr For Me, Scarlet, and Believe show Tico’s capability to compose more popular and happy songs than before. There is a big change in the topic of the lyrics, the previous ones are about relationships, feelings, emotional problems, but the new ones are about political problems, anti-globalism, and environmental protection. Tico: ’I always wanted to write lyrics about these topics, but I was not ready, but now I feel it’s important. Now I’m a different person than two years ago, I’m more direct, extrovert, and courageous. I want to alert people, I want to communicate. I want to change people!" Change The World is the first song of the demo, and it’s a really big start, with a glorious chorus, (and "the lyrics are really powerful" - Melinda Baksa). The chorus can become the slogan of the band ’Only Together We Can Change The World". This song is about the world politics, about George Bush’s administration, about the global warming, politics, and dictatorships. The second song is Scarlet, a cute love song, a little bit similar to Melt Away, from the Vanity demo in 2000. Then demo continues with another story-teller song, about the terrorist attacks all over the world, called ’Don’t Die A Martyr For Me’. Then another love song, but this time in Italian, called ’Giulia’. After this lamentation we reach the zenith of the demo with ’Let The Sun Shine’ (a newer version taken from the Vanity Star). The penultimate song is ’Believe’, a positive songfrom Tico. (I write/dedicade the song to my father to help him in the recovering from his illness). Finally, the Depression, called ’Splendid Solitude’, a long, beautiful dirge. ("I started playing the guitar melody of ’Eclipse’ from the Eunomia demo, and Viktor continued with the drums, in one week the song was ready!") The demo has bigger success than the previous demo Flame. They decide to start playing at concerts and organizing more of them. So in 2006 they play at least six or seven concerts, one of them is Budapest Fringe in the spring of 2007. In the fall of 2007 Dawnstar records their fitfh demo, called Scarlet. The engineers are Jappan and Phillip from Heaven Street Seven. The songs are ’Change The World’, ’Don’t Die A Martyr For Me’ and ’Scarlet’ (this time with new chorus ’Everybody uses her, everybody likes her curls) and new lyrics about a whore who is used by everybody). The result is obvious.
