Attempted murder of Michelina Lewandowska

The Attempted murder of Michelina Lewandowska occurred 28 May 2011 in the United Kingdom, when her fiancee buried her alive in a cardboard box under six inches (152 mm) of earth. This led to her to be referred to as the buried alive girl by the media.
Attack
Her former fiancé Marcin Kasprzak and his friend Patryk Borys bound her and buried her in a computer box in a forested area.<ref name="bbc"/> After nearly an hour buried she was able to cut her bindings with her diamond engagement ring and claw her way above ground.<ref name="bbc"/> Her fiancee was sentenced to 20 years prison for the attempted murder and kidnapping and his accomplice to 4 and a half years for the latter charge.<ref name="bbc"/> Both perpetrators and the victim were Polish immigrants.<ref name="bbc"/> Lewandowska cited a desire to see her son, whom Kasprzak fathered, to be her motivation that enabled her to escape her shallow grave.<ref name="bbc"/>
