Ogene is born British. Her parents hail from Delta in the south-south part of Nigeria.

Activism
As a journalist of colour herself, Ogene is a vocal person against racial prejudices. In 2020, Ogene was a strong supporter of the 'Black Lives Matter movement. She joined people of diversity in the UK to sign a petition that condemned the arrest of African-American correspondent Omar Jimenez and his fellow crew members, including producer Bill Kirkos and photojournalist Leonel Mendez, reporting for CNN on the unrest in Minneapolis following the brutal death of African-American George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis.
Awards and Recognitions
In March 2019 Ogene received a merit award at the South-South Achievers Awards (SSA), a regional award held yearly in Calabar, south-south part of Nigeria. The award nominated by Obaji Akpet, a Nigerian journalist was in recognition of Ogene's support to up and coming journalists in Nigeria.
