Ashgate Retail Park is a small retail park based in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. It has one running store, Kennelgate, which takes up two of the six retail units. The site is located next to Hucknall Railway Station and adjacent to Tesco Extra Nottingham Hucknall on Ashgate Road, the site of the former Hucknall Colliery. History The original project for the retail units was the brainchild of land owners Derbyshire Estates. The original planning application was submitted as long ago as 2003 - after the colliery site had stood empty for several years. Go-ahead for the building of the first half of the development was given by Ashfield District Council in 2006. The second phase of the project was rubberstamped in 2007. Rumours There have been many rumours about shops taking on units at the park. Some of these were national clothing giant Next, fast-food chain McDonald's and leisure store Halfords. Halfords did acquire planning permission for signs at one of the units in 2008 but nothing has happened since.
