| </noinclude> Artificial microRNA (amiRNA) ia a type of miRNA which is derived by replacing native miRNA duplexes from a natural miRNA precursor.
 Key features of an amiRNA
 * An amiRNA should have secondary structural similarity that of its precursor.
 * It can be processed by host machinery as normal miRNA.
 * After processing it will produce amiRNA:amiRNA* duplex instead of natural miRNA:miRNA* duplex.
 * It should have the ability to confer PTGS to a specific target.
 Types of amiRNA
 * monocistronic amiRNA- amiRNA produces only one amiRNA:amiRNA* duplex
 * Dicistronic amiRNA- produces two amiRNA:amiRNA duplex of same type or different type
 * Polycistronic amiRNA- can produce more than two types of amiRNA:amiRNA* duplex
 Use of amiRNA
 *amiRNA is a new strategy having huge potential. As a PTGS, it is tested to confer viral resistance in plants.  Nonetheless,  more research must be done to improve a better strategy which can confer resistance to fungal and bacterial diseases.
