Armenians in Japan

Armenians in Japan form one of the world's smaller Armenian diaspora communities. There are few ethnic Armenians living in Japan today; in the past, some small communities were established, but have since all but disappeared due to assimilation or re-migration. , fewer than 100 Armenians are believed to live in the country.
Most Armenian communities in Japan (and in the Far East in general) formed after the Armenian Genocide. Diana Agabeg Apcar, who would later become Armenia's consul to Japan, was known for helping Armenian refugees gain entry to the United States via Japan. She lived much of her later years in Yokohama, where she died in 1937 and was buried; her family continued to live there up until the end of World War II.
In November 2008, Japan pledged to re-settle some Armenian refugees from the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
