Aravious Armstrong

Aravious “Ray Ray” Armstrong is an American football defensive back. He currently attends the University of Miami as an incoming freshman. Armstrong was considered one of the best defensive prospects coming out of high school in 2009. ESPN′s Tom Luginbill called Armstrong a “Kenny Phillips, Sean Taylor-type presence over the middle” at safety, but said Armstrong eventually could end up at the linebacker position. Jamie Newberg of Rivals.com even compared Armstrong to “Jevon Kearse at the same stage”, projecting him to end up as a weakside defensive end.
Armstrong led his team to a 6A Florida state championship during his senior year, as the first non-South Florida squad to win the 6A title since Apopka in 2001. Playing quarterback on the offense, he completed 95 of 174 pass attempts for 1,297 yards and 13 touchdowns, while also rushing for 1,044 yards on 187 carries for 19 touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 29 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Armstrong had 60 tackles with two interceptions.
As a senior Armstrong was named 6A FSWA All-State First Team DB, All-Central Florida Defensive Player of the Year, Seminole Athletic Conference Conference First Team (coaches vote) defense and Second Team offense, Orlando Sentinel′s All-Southern team (FL), and The Press Register′s Super Southeast 120.
