AraPacis

AraPacis is a Canadian hard rock/progressive rock/goth metal band formed in early 2003. The stated goal was to recreate aspects of 70’s era rock with the early 21st century’s Gothic metal feel. The band is named for the monument in Rome, the Ara Pacis, an altar to peace commissioned by the Roman Senate.
History
Formed in Longueuil, Quebec in 2003 AraPacis is a progressive/gothic metal band whose lyrics deal with themes of learning, interpersonal relations and the futility of war. Since their inception they have had a number of members all based around the leadership of the most senior of the members, Jerry Fielden. They have played shows throughout Montreal and Longueuil, Toronto and Ottawa, etc. and have opened for such acts as Anvil, Scarlet Sins, The Agonist and Raven. They are well known throughout Montreal’s progressive rock community thanks largely in part to Jerry Fielden’s contacts in the industry. AraPacis signed with Femme Metal Records on Dec. 21, 2008.
They released their first album So Many Leapers on April 15, 2006 (produced by Denise Gorman) and their second album Consequences of Dreams on October 5, 2009 (produced by Jerry Fielden). The band has started working on their next album, which is due to come out in 2011.
Current members
On lead vocals there is Lizzie Fyre who was born and raised in Montreal. According to her bio on the band’s website, she began recording at a very young age and has been learning to play the guitar. In the past, she has written her own music and lyrics, but prefers the band dynamic. Her influences are diverse ranging from Janis Joplin to Rise Against to Straight Line Stitch. The band’s lead guitarist is Jerry Fielden who has been around since the 1970s playing in a variety of Montreal and Toronto bands. Due to his lengthy involvement in the Montreal music scene, he has been privileged enough to have played in many of the iconic venues of both Montreal and Toronto. According to his bio, he has played with many indie and more mainstream Canadian music icons including such singer/songwriters as Jeff Healey and Frank and Vince Marino. He has recorded three solo albums and has done lyricist work for other musicians and bands. In addition to his work with AraPacis, he is also an archivist-researcher and writer for la Société historique du Marigot in Longueuil, a French translator for Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan's website and has taught Multimedia at McGill University in Montreal. He has a BA in History and Music Technology and a Master’s in Library and Information Studies. His influences are extensive and musically derived from the era of 70’s rock though his playing style and sound, reflect a more modern flavour.
