Ara Tekian

Ara Tekian is professor and director of International Affairs for the Department of Medical Education, and the Associate Dean for the Office of International Education at the College of Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago. His professional and research interests include curriculum development, educational assessment and innovative testing methodologies, competency-based learning, and medical simulation. Tekian has consulted with curriculum development efforts in over 45 countries.
Early life and education
Tekian received a BS degree in Biology and Chemistry in 1975, followed by a MS degree in Neuroanatomy in 1979 and PhD in Neuroscience in 1981 from the American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon. Tekian serves as principal investigator on an American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology sponsored grant to build a practice-based network of educators improving psychiatry education through the formation of the Psychiatry Educational Assessment, Research, and Learning Consortium. Tekian is also chair of the International Editorial Board of the journal .
