Antoniev Caves- Sacred place

There are places in the world which are considered holy, full of spiritual essence. Some of them are also called places of power- where unknown natural forces have created unique conditions. Ukraine has a whole row of such objects and places that are of international significance.
Chernihiv is one of the oldest and most interesting cities in Ukraine and in Europe. Beautiful cathedrals and churches built in 11-13 centuries attract a lot of tourists. According to historians, Chernigiv conceals as many secrets as Egypt’s Valley of the Kings. St. Anthony’s caves were built in 1069 in Chernigiv by St. Anthony as part of the Eletsky Assumption monastery complex. It is a spiritual and holy place, it forms an underground monastery which is a complex of passageways, chambers and chapels.
Structure
The only ground building is Illinskaya church. All the other churches and galleries are located under the ground. With the time the complex expanded - underground passages and churches remained till today and are extremely popular among visitors. The whole length of the corridors is 350 m. The depth of the caves varies from 2 till 12 m. Narrow corridors, little monks` rooms, bones of monks who were murdered during Mongol-Tatar invasion in 1239. Today the underground complex consists of two layers. Lower - it the underground cemetery in a way. The burial places are found everywhere here: in walls, in the floor of gallery, in monastic cells.
Facts
For many centuries the monks dug catacombs until an underground complex appeared. These catacombs have been the site of many phenomena for which there is no scientific explanation. In the 1960s, members of archaeological expeditions claimed to hear strange sounds and to smell the aroma of burning incense, and they often reported feeling that someone was breathing down the backs of their necks. In 1970, the famous Black Monk, an apparition in a long black robe, made his first appearance … In another study, a group of archeologists brought electromagnetic instruments to search for underground voids, and the instruments started breaking and giving unrealistic results. Geophysicists from Dnepropetrovks,Ukraine were able to track a powerful source of energy not yet known to science inside the caves. Scientists proposed a theory that there might be an asteroid or its remains inside of Boldyn Hills, an area where the monastery complex is located.
Most visitors to the caves experience increased vitality, a feeling of euphoria and the correction of abnormal heart rhythms, so from time immemorial, people have traveled there to be cured of various ailments.
