Anne Woodell

Anne Woodell (born Anne Morrow November 5, 1936 - January 25, 2017) was an Oakland, CA civil servant who was a significant proponent for the City of Oakland, especially in the organization and development of Oakland Parks and Recreation.
Anne Woodell was the second woman on the Oakland Parks and Recreation Commission (1974-2001) and served as a commissioner for over twenty years. She was the founder of Friends of the Oakland Parks and Recreation in 1981 (now Parks and Recreation Foundation). She also served on the boards of Children’s Fairyland (1974-2001), the Dunsmuir Historic Estate (1978-2001), and the Alameda County Historical Society (1998-2016).
She was a member of the Oakland Municipal Band committee from 1998-2016 supporting the all-volunteer organization to support one of the oldest municipal bands in the country.

• Oakland Parks Coalition (2001-2016)
• Oakland Public Schools Budget Advisory Committee (1996-1998)
• Hillside Gardeners of Montclair (1974-2016)
• Citizen of the Year by the New Oakland Committee (2000)
• Mother of the Year by Oakland Parks and Recreation (2009)
In January 2016 Anne was honored by the Oakland Garden Club at an event where they dedicated a statue and plaque that recognizes that Anne’s “footprints (are) permanently etched in the heart of Oakland Parks and Recreation."
