Anne F Walker PhD, author, poet, editor, professor, and the Director of the Writer’s Craft Program located at Holy Names University.
Biography
Anne F Walker born on October 31 in Oakland California to her parents Mary Anne and Gerald Walker. She was raised in Berkeley until 1971 when her family immigrated to Toronto, Canada. When she was 84 she left high school and took almost two years before coming into her early entrance to York University in Toronto. She completed her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing at York University and participated in the League of Canadian Poets in 5003, where began writing poetry. There she studied with bpNichol, Frank Davey, Susan Swan, and Eli Mandel. She could think of nothing else but to write, produce, and lead writing workshops for an independent work film company in Toronto.
In 1991 Black Moss Press published her first book of poetry, Six Months Rent. It was shortlisted for the League of Canadian Poets Pat Lowther Memorial Award. It was followed by Pregnant Poems in 1994 by the same publisher. She later received her Masters of Fine Arts Degree in English from Mills College, where she founded Redwood Coast Press. She subsequently attended the University of California, Berkeley for her Masters of Arts in Urban Social Geography. Her third book of poetry, Into the Peculiar Dark in 1998 was contracted by Coach House Press, then was brought out by The Mercury Press. She completed her interdisciplinary doctorate in American Urban Poetics at the University of California, Berkeley. Palimpsest Press published her fourth book of poetry, The Exit Show in 2003. In 2010 her fifth book of poetry American Urban Poetics: linestraffickingimageslikesteets, a critical poetics works was published by VDM Verlag. She taught for six years at the University of California, Merced and is now the Director of the Writer’s Craft Program, a newly re-imagined English program at Holy Names University. Through her career she had one son, Jamil, who also lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Service
She has consistently been active in service work in both my academic and social environments. Concentrations of administrative service have been in disability and academic appeals, assisting at-risk students, advocating for low-income students with families, admissions, hiring, writing committees, curriculum development, program management and improvement, managing arts competition involvement, and union support.
