Anime Depression

The Anime Depression was a severe panic and controversy among the fans of popular Japanese anime once they were moved to TV channels that the fans belived were not suitable for that show. This panic began once a post on the Naruto website revealed that the popular anime, Naruto: Shippuden would be premeiring on Disney XD , and not Cartoon Network , the channel that aired the show's predecessor, Naruto . This caused an enormous panic among fans of the show.
Ever since the action programming block which Naruto was ussualy shown on, Toonami was pulled from Cartoon Network, hundreds of fans started questioning if the english-dubbed sequel series to Naruto would return to Cartoon Network. This question remained unanswered for another year.
In Fall of 2009, it was announced that the english dubbed Naruto: Shippuden would instead premeire on Disney XD, which emedietly caused panic and controversy among fans. Most believe that Naruto: Shippuden holds strong violent content which would not be suitable for veiwers of Disney XD. Others worry that Disney XD will edit out all of the blood, violence, and occasional sexual themes and diologue. Ever since Shippuden premeired, most of the content has been edited out. Including the names of jutsu (such as the "Sexy Jutsu" being changed to "Cutie or Hottie jutsu"). Some scenes and blood were also removed from the theme songs.
Toonami's equally popular show, Dragon Ball Z was also kept on hiatus. A few years later, news about the show finally arrived. In commemoration of the original's twentieth anniversary, a new, revised version of the anime Dragon Ball Z Kai was produced, and was later licensed for an English-language release in North America. Soon after, Nicktoons announced that the series would be broadcasting on their channel, and the series made its U.S. premiere on May 24, 2010. This created a massive panic similar to the Naruto on Disney XD affair, however, due to the larger fanbase, this panic was known to be much more chaotic. Once the first episode premiered, many fans were pleased. Enjoying how the dub "stayed mature, and stuck to the script". However, a few minor edits still continue to appear.
Today, the english dubbed versions of One Piece, Rurouni Kenshin, The Prince of Tennis, Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, MÄR, YuYu Hakusho, ect., still remain off the air in North America.
Cancellation of Toonami
Toonami was a registered trademark of Cartoon Network, used initially for action-oriented programming blocks on Cartoon Network television channels worldwide, and was the former block broadcasting the original english dubbed Naruto anime, along with other equally popular anime, such as Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, MÄR, The Prince of Tennis, ect. On September 20, 2008 Toonami ended its eleven year run with its final broadcast.
A few years after Toonami's cancellation, many fans started to question the return of anime. This quickly reached fans of Toonami nationwide. It is uknown if anime or Toonami will ever return to Cartoon Network.
Over the years, some anime which were formally on Toonami moved to seperate channels. Dissapointing hundreds of fans.
Naruto: Shippuden on Disney XD Affair
On September 10th 2009, a post on the popular Naruto website revealded that the English dub of Naruto: Shippuden will start airing weekly on Disney XD In October, which emedietly stirred panic among the Naruto fanbase. Due to the shows strong violent content and occasional sexual diologue, the show may seem as if it is not suitable for Disney viewers. Many fans worried that Disney will edit out the Blood and violence, which they belive may somehow diminish the unique style of Naruto and make it "un-watchable" or a "disaster". Viewers also worried that Disney would cut-out all of the Sexual Diologue (such as the "Sexy Jutsu" being changed to "Cutie or Hottie jutsu"). Most of this appeared to be the outcome. Disney edited out characters using the words "kill" or "die" and replaced it with "Destroy" or "gone/does not survive". To the day, the dubbed Naruto: Shippuden continues to be edited, and fans are still not happy with the changes.
Dragon Ball Z Kai on Nicktoons Affair
In 2010, Funimation Entertainment licensed Dragon Ball Z Kai for an English-language release in North America. Soon after, Nicktoons announced that the series would be broadcasting on their channel, and the series made its U.S. premiere on May 24, 2010. The fans reactions were similar to the Naruto on Disney XD Affair. However, due to the larger fanbase, this affair seemed to be much more hectic and chaotic. The day it premiered, many fans of Dragon Ball were suprisingly pleased with the episode. Only a small majority of fans are against Dragon Ball Z Kai on Nicktoons. Only a few edits are made and it continues to air weekly.
The Depression 2008-
Anime popularity in North America has suffered a tremendous downfall ever since Toonami was cancelled. Since the most popular anime (which were formally on Cartoon Network) have been moved to seperate channels and edited.
Another popular anime, Bleach, has been on Cartoon Network's late night programming block Adult Swim for almost six years, and is one of the only anime left on Cartoon Network. Bleach along with (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Kekkaishi, Cowboy Bebop ect.) are also the only anime that fans believe are on suitable channels. This downfall has been nicknamed as the Anime Drepression among the fanbase, and has been going on since 2008.
