Amit Sahai suicide

Amit Sahai was a student of National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar (NIT, Jalandhar), Punjab. He committed suicide on October 11, 2005, by jumping in front of a speeding train. In an apparent suicide note found in his room he stated that several senior students of NIT, Jalandhar had continually ragged him, which left him extremely upset..

The numbers and names of students who had been allegedly included in the suicide note appear to vary in different media reports. An article published in the Daily Excelsior cites the names of ten students: A second news article reports that the names of thirteen students were stated in the note. :


Disciplinary Action
As of October 2005, at least two of the persons reportedly named in the suicide note attributed to Amit Sahai, Abhijeet Biswas and Pramod Hingmang, had been expelled from NIT, Jalandhar. However, it should be noted that these expulsions by the Institute were a result of a separate case of ragging involving multiple other students..
