Amerikis Street

Amerikis Street (Greek: Odos Amerikis), is Patras' street running from Iroon Polytechneiou up to Panepistimiou Street (the old GR-8, Athens - Corinth - Patras). Its total length is approximately 2 km. The street contains one lane with parking spaces on both sides.

Modern residential buildings line most of the street, entirely in the western part. The Lidl Supermarkets is between the OSE's SPAP line and Notara Street, groves in the eastern part.

Traffic

The street is not frequently used. Its traffic flow is medium to low.

History

The avenue was paved in mid- to late-20th century. After World War II and the Greek Civil War, the road was finally paved in the 1950s and several buildings were rebuilt. Housing developments arrived in the 1970s and the 1980s and boomed along the northern part of the street. Replacing farmlands, mainly groves along with other crops which are now to be found in the eastern end of the street. Until 1995, it served as a tertiary branch of the GR-8 as traffic come from Agiou Andreou or Korinthou. Today it only comes from the north-central part of the city.
