American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

The American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) is a medical society that represents ophthalmologists who sub-specialize in oculofacial plastic surgery, also known as oculoplastics. The ASOPRS states their mission is "to advance education, research, and the quality of clinical practice in the fields of aesthetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery specializing in the face, orbits, eyelids, and lacrimal system." The society is responsible for approving and maintaining post-graduate fellowship programs to train physicians as well as administer written and oral board examinations.
Membership
Membership in the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is limited to board-certified members of the American Board of Ophthalmology who have completed a ASOPRS fellowship, passed written and oral board examinations through ASOPRS, and written an accepted thesis. Alternative pathways to membership exist for board-certified ophthalmologists who are deemed by the ASOPRS to have distinguished themselves in the field and for physicians who live and practice outside the United States.
Society benefits
The Society publishes Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a scientific journal, and hosts two annual meetings. Society members are involved in advocacy of the society's goal on the national level through the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, and other organizations dedicated to education and clinical care. New members to the society are invited to be active in Young ASOPRS which aims to help physicians early in their practice. As of December 2022, there are 29 fellowships offered for even year cycles and 28 fellowships offered for odd years cycles.
