American Legion Post No. 1

American Legion Post No. 1 is the Paris-based founding post of the American Legion. The American Legion was founded in Paris in 1919 with the formation of this first post.
Present activities
Post No. 1 is today composed of American veterans and French veterans who fought with US forces, and "Friends of the American Legion Post #1 Paris". Post No. 1 sends representatives (delegates) to many different areas of France. Together, they serve to promote the "Duty of Memory" toward American and Allied soldiers who helped to liberate France during the First and Second World Wars. Post No. 1 and its regional delegates organize memorial ceremonies in which the American Legion participates.

# Picardy
# Manche
# Calvados
# Seine-et-Marne
# Essonnes
# Hauts-de-Seine
They work closely with government authorities and French Civil Military. The Post No. 1 organizes commemorative ceremonies in Paris and the provinces, such as Memorial Day and American Independence Day.
