In 1970, Jerry Weiss, who was one of the band members in one of the first incarnations of Blood, Sweat & Tears formed a new band entitled Ambergris, whose self titled 1970 debut release Ambergris? featured a rooster image by American artist, Stephen S. Myers. Mike Jan of the New York Times highlighted this release noting a rock band had been formed that utilized a latin sound. Other members of the band included Jimmy Maelen, Steve Cropper provided engineering and direction. The art direction for the original rooster image was provided by Thom Williams. Singles from the band in 1970s included: Forget It, I Got, The Bible Salesman and Rise Up, Keep the People Goin'. Benjamin Wheelock, in his article for Salon Magazine, "You Must Hear This! 'Ambergris'" further notes that Jerry Weiss the band's founder went on to work with Al Kooper playing trumpet and another instrument. The Ambergris. Ambergris? "Rooster Cover Image" on Paramount Records in 1970 was selected by an independent jury of newspaper and music executives as one of the best covers of the year and featured in the publication Cover '70. ---- Cover '70.
