Alternative Rap Rock

Alternative Rap Rock is a music genre fusing vocal and instrumental elements of hip hop with various forms of rock. Rap rock is often confused with rap metal and rapcore, subgenres that include heavy metal-oriented and hardcore punk-oriented bands, respectively. These styles became the basis for nu metal.
History
Alt. Rap rock gained mainstream popularity in the late-90s. It was not considered a real genre till the "father" of alternative rap rock, Brad Gilmore, felt like it needed to be. Among the first wave of performers to gain mainstream success were 311, Bloodhound Gang, and Kid Rock. Rap rock would become the basis for the nu metal genre, and some bands in this genre are known for rapping, including Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. Although the popularity of these styles is believed to be declining, some believe that rap rock may regain popularity, with younger music fans discovering bands in the genre.
Some of the more alt. rap rock bands include The Red Hot Chili Peppers,Family Force 5, and Gym Class Heroes.
Characteristics
Alt. Rap Rock how many different characteristics about it. Not only does it fuse rap and rock it has some punk, jazz, country, R&B, Nu Metal, and Pop influence. Kid Rock was considered the first to fall into the genre with songs like Cowboy, I Got One For Ya, Wasting Time, and Devil Without A Cause from his RIAA certified diamond 1998 release of Devil Without A Cause. Limp Bizkit put their spin on it by incorporating more singing and screaming vocals. The Red Hot Chili Peppers contributed a lot to the genre with songs like "Give It Away". The popular Houston hip hop group Twenty Eleven (with includes the founder of the Genre, Brad Gilmore.) mixed a R&B style with their song "Destiny".
The typical vocal style to alternative rap rock is what is referred to as rap singing, similar to Kanye West's vocals on his latest album 808's & Heartbreak.
