Alpha Phi Gamma

Alpha Phi Gamma (ΑΦΓ) (also known as A-Phi-G) was founded on February 1, 1994 at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona as the first Asian-interest sorority on campus. The sorority was founded by seven women.
Alpha Phi Gamma's main purpose is to provide service and spread Asian Awareness to the university and surrounding communities believing that it will be to the betterment of society. There is a special emphasis on scholarship and academic excellence, personal development and leadership.
Alpha Phi Gamma is also a member of the National APIA Panhellenic Association.
History
Alpha Phi Gamma was the first Asian-American interest sorority to be established at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. The organization was founded by seven sisters who wanted to unite women of different nationalities in the form of friendship and sisterhood. Through service and promoting Asian Awareness, they hoped that sisters will be able to learn more about each other and help the community. As time passed, the sorority has grown internally as well as externally, expanding across the nation.
Purpose
To bring together all women of different nationalities through bonds of friendship and sisterhood. Alpha Phi Gamma exists to provide service and Asian Awareness to the university and the surrounding communities for the betterment of society. It promotes scholarship and academic excellence, personal development and leadership.
Philanthropy
Alpha Phi Gamma's official National Philanthropy is the Fight Against Violence Towards Women. The origins of the philanthropy came from the first National Conference in June 1999. During this gathering, Sisters voted to focus on a cause that was not as strongly supported as others, but affected the lives of many women around the world. Thus began the journey in helping to fight against violence towards women.
Since then, Alpha Phi Gamma Sisters across the nation have committed their efforts in volunteering with shelters and organizations, and to help raise funds for this cause. Alpha Phi Gamma seeks to spread awareness of this cause to build support in our communities year-round. In addition, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, Alpha Phi Gamma joins together on a national level to volunteer time, raise awareness and help fundraise for this important cause.
In November 2009, Alpha Phi Gamma strengthened their commitment by becoming a member of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV). The NCADV, whose core funding is generated through membership dues and product sales, is a non-profit grassroots membership organization working to eliminate domestic violence, empower victims of domestic violence, unite voices, alert and educate the public, and build partnerships.
