Allumera™ is a cosmetic product intended to improve the appearance of the skin. The active ingredient is a light source and Allumera cream, the technology is based on Photodynamic therapy. On February 4, 2011 Photocure announced positive results from the RevitAll study for delivering significant skin appearance improvements. Photocure is conducting consumer trials at 15 clinics in the US to further investigate the effects of Allumera. Allumera was launched in the US market in June 2011.
Allumera was invented in Norway and represents the first in a new class called Photodynamic Cosmetics. There is strong evidence that Photodynamic therapy is effective in skin rejuvenation. Photocure has experienced that PDT is effective as a cosmetic product during the developed of Metvix for skin cancer and Visonac for acne.
