Allen Ernest Pidwell. QSM . Born on January 1942 ( Gordon Hugh Pidwell 1905 - 1974 and Magaret Ellen Pidwell 1903 - 1984 ) in Wanganui New Zealand. Siblings Patricia Margaret Pidwell, Harold James Pidwell, David Gordon Pidwell. Educated at Gonville Primary School, Wanganui Techical College and Palmerston North Teachers College. Whilst atttending WTC was chosen for the 1st XI soccer for four years consecutively, and Wanganui age-group soccer reps the same four years. Joined the Wanganui Fire Brigade in June 1963 rising to the rank of Senior Station Officer. Promoted Assistant Fire Commander, January 1st 1986 and served three and a half years at the New Zealand Fire service College . Promoted to Fire Commander, served 18 months at NZFS National HQ as Assistant Director Resource Requirements before transfering back to Wanganui. Promoted to Chief Fire Officer, New Plymouth on April 3rd 1995 and served there until his retiredment in 2004 with the rank od Assistant Regional Fire Commander. Became the first recipient of the NZFS Len Doughty Scholarship and studied Risk Managemnt in the Petro-chemical Industry in both the UK. and Netherlands for one month in 2000. Now living in New Plymouth and is Secretary of the New Plymouth Surf Rider's Club and editor of their bi-monthly newsletter LINEUP. Committee member of SURFING TARANAKI and the national environmental organisation SURFBREAK PROTECTION. Was instrumental in making a successful submission to the TARANAKI REGIONAL COUNCIL that "surfbreaks should be recgnised and proected as natural features under the NEW ZEALAND COASTAL PROTECTION STATEMENT".
