All African Poker Championship
|
The All African Poker Tournament began in February 2005, with 90 players gathered around conference tables, dealing to themselves. Since then it has grown to it’s current 120 player tournament size, taking place four times a year. The All African Poker tournament has been dubbed the “Richest Poker Tournament in Africa”. TV coverage is screened on DStv.
Players have included Christopher Convery, Peter Vermaas, Ryan Brauer, Raymond Rahme, and the father and son duo of Neville and Ryan Eber. With the recent global revival in Texas Hold'em Poker, it has also become popular amongst local celebrities such as Alex Jay, Danny K, Neil Andrews and many more.
Apart from the opportunity to play side by side with celebrities and poker professionals, as well as the prize money on offer, Piggs Peak Hotel & Casino sponsors all inclusive packages with seats to the World Series of Poker, for the top placed players in many of the tournaments.
A Southern African player, Raymond Rahme, who won his seat to the World Series of Poker through the All African Poker tournament, became the first South African to make the final table and finished in 3rd place, with earnings that equated to more than R21 million (US$ 3,048,000) .
