Alexander Karnal is an American businessman, a partner and managing director at Deerfield Management Company, since 2005. During the Covid-19 pandemic, he was appointed by Governor Ned Lamont to the "Reopen Connecticut Advisory Group", charged with advising on how to reopen the state’s economy, community and education systems. Education Alexander Karnal earned a bachelor's degree in Finance from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and M.S. in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University. Career Alexander Karnal is a partner and managing director at Deerfield Management Company which is a biotech investment firm based in New York. He also serves on the Boards of the New York Academy of Medicine, Biotechnology Innovation Organization, Recovery Centers of America and Discovery Labs. In 2020 he was listed in “The top 20 under 40: Inside the next generation of biopharma leaders" by Endpoints News. He is also a co-founder, CEO and board chairman of The Institute for Life Changing Medicines.
