Alberto Alvarez de Cienfuegos Cobos (Martos, Jaen, August 15, 1885 - Puertollano, Ciudad Real, November 18, 1957), writer, journalist, poet and Spanish dramatist.

Poet, playwright, modernist word adventurer, lover of gardens and legends of Granada, Spain, Alberto Alvarez de Cienfuegos Cobos was who brought the Sacromonte the Madrid scene in July 1936. His progressive and republican position, refusal to cooperate with the regime of Francisco Franco, earned years of neglect and death in exile of the letters. Today sees the light in some sketches of Andalusian modernist authors. However, their works are covered by the dust of time, waiting for a necessary reissue and recovery.
Born into a family from Granada, but on a farm in the town of Jaen Martos before the cholera epidemic broke out that year in Granada. After the epidemic, the family returns to Granada's home number 18 Plaza de Santa Cruz, now the headquarters of the Bar. There were a total of eleven children, all boys, of whom only seven survived.
The paternal family name comes from Alvarez, originally from Asturias, who emigrated to the eighteenth century Cuba, where they settled in the city of Cienfuegos. On his return to Spain his name is definitely attached to this Cuban city like Alvarez de Cienfuegos. The Granada branch is closely related to the known and studied poet of the eighteenth century, Nicasio Alvarez de Cienfuegos.
It was formed in an atmosphere of great cultural activity since childhood. His father was a professor of German at the only institute of the time in Granada and his maternal grandfather, Francisco Javier Rodríguez Cobos, was one of the founders, along with Pedro Antonio de Alarcón, the famous intellectual gatherings and group Rope and Grenadine creator of the newspaper El Progreso.
Alberto studied at the school of the escolapios and subsequently Science and Law at the University of Granada, where he meets his friend Blas Infante, father of Andalusian nationalism. His true vocation eventually manifest itself in the field of Letters. In this university time begins to cultivate his literary activity intensely poetic collaborations in magazines like Alhambra, directed by Paula Valladar. Prioritizing from this time in his compositions the musicality of the verse, the rhythmic beginning of the poem, his literary tastes lean toward the already consolidated modernism, which will be one of the last representatives and growers. Villaespesa Francisco, who dedicated his first book, will be your reference point in the search for this new musical poetic language.
His debut, Errant (1910), is a recognition and tribute to his friend Francisco Villaespesa, although once this influence, develops an original and harmonious own poetic voice. The writer's life time between Madrid and Granada. Married to Leonor Torres Molina, still exists in the Albaicín carmen with the name of his wife Leonor, household at the end of the Civil War. He had three children: Alberto Alvarez de Cienfuegos Torres, who followed his footsteps but literary detective story, Carmen and Cristian.
Alberto, very cultured person, to which he contributed the large family library, fluent in several languages. For his entrepreneurial spirit, played all sorts of jobs and companies embarked on dubious success. He became one of the first producers of Spanish cinema and translators silent film labels.
The Civil War surprised in Madrid, where he remained until the end of the war. Progressive spirit and republican ideology, I was fortunate to not have political significance both collaborations and publicly. However, once instituted the military dictatorship and to be required to work for the National Movement and deny it fell into obscurity and contempt of his work by the Francoist authorities.
Alberto died in Puertollano on November 18, 1957, at his daughter Carmen, where he lived the last years of his life.

His poems, nostalgic, melancholy and gloomy, reflect the character of the author. One of the most characteristic symbols is the garden, specifically referring to the parts of the Alhambra. Indeed, the last part of Andante, Andante title continues and allegro (1877) of the Andalusian poet Manuel Reina, is dedicated to gardens and landscapes painted Grenadian by the Catalan Santiago Rusiñol. In his poetry dominated the suggestion, spiritual yearning on the subject, all with a tone of melancholy pessimism own existential uncertainty of his time. Alberto Alvarez de Cienfuegos Cobos: La Vega, the city and the mountains
Besides poetry, Alvarez de Cienfuegos is also devoted to poetic drama. He released several dramas with remarkable success, including a version of the famous legend about the Palacio de Castril, entitled "Waiting for her in heaven" (1920). He performed with presentation Granada, the company Ricardo Calvo, one of the most famous actors of the time. In this work follow "Revenge of the Sea" and "A woman and sing", the latter in collaboration with Miguel the girl.
The Granada wrote some plays junior as the operetta "The Queen of Chinatown" and the comic opera in two acts "The court of King Jati".
While devoted to poetry and theater collaborated in local and national publications like The Advocate Granada Granada and El Noticiero; and magazines such as Granada, Reflections, The Sphere and Black and White. In the Defender of Granada coincided with his brother Valentin, both of Constantine friends Carnero Ruiz and Federico García Lorca.
