Al Shatnawi family is a Jordanian family consisting of about 6000 members residing mostly in northern Jordan in the Irbid region. The family resides in Huwwarah, el Sarih, Ennueimeh, Aidoun and other parts of Jordan, Europe, Australia and the United States. Among the prominent members of the family is Dr. Muhammad Rashid Shatanawi who served as the Minister of Water and Irrigation and Dr. Shakir Shatnawi the State Pavement Engineer in California. The history of this family goes back to Medina in the Arabian Peninsula, then in the City of Hayel as part of the Shammar tribes, then in southern Jordan in the town of El Tafeeleh as part of the Al Awran tribe, then to Shatana in northern Jordan after which the family took its name, Shatnawi (also spelled as Shatanawi). Afterwards they settled in the plains of Houran.
