Air Berlin Flight 2450 was a Boeing 737-800 operated by Air Berlin that rejected take-off from Dortmund Airport and overran the runway coming to rest in a ditch. On 3 January 2010 at 07.05 LT, the flight rejected takeoff at high speed from Dortmund's runway 06 in heavy snowfall which stopped the aircraft from stopping in time. The plane ran off the end of the runway and came to a stop on soft ground. The pilot later said that he aborted take-off due to 'technical irregularity'. No passengers or crew substained injury with the aircraft receiving minor damage. The flight was the third Boeing 737-800 overrun in a period of 1 month. It was proceeded by an American Airlines flight, then a Ryanair flight. Aftermath As a result to the incident Dortmund Airport was closed for 14 hours to allow the recovery of the aircraft. The airport was reopened at 20:45L (19:45Z). The Aircraft The aircraft involved in the incident was a quite new Boeing 737-86J, registration D-ABKF, CN 37745. The plane first flew on 18 September 2009 and delivered to Air Berlin on the 30 September 2009. The aircraft was only 0.3 years old when the incident took place.
