Aidan Vass (b. 2003) is a Los Angeles-based composer of contemporary classical music. Biography Aidan Vass was born on March 6, 2003, in Providence, RI. He began formal compositional studies with Brett Banducci in 2016, and was accepted into the Nancy and Barry Sanders' Composer Fellowship Program the following year. As a fellow, Vass studied under Andrew Norman, Sarah Gibson and Thomas Kotcheff, and he had performance opportunities with ensembles such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and the American Youth Symphony, among others. In 2020/2021, Vass was named YoungArts winner in composition, as well as a first place winner of the MTAC Composers Today competition. Since this success, he has been accepted into the Young Composers Guild with MTAC. He was also a finalist for the ASCAP Morton Gould Award, as well as the Young Composers Challenge the same year. In 2020, Vass premiered a multi media cello piece, performed by Michigan-based cellist Andres Ayerbe. This premiere featured a full-fledged animated painting, and received positive acclaim. 2021 will mark the release of his debut album, 8 Sketches for Piano, which also features visual accompaniment. Vass is also active as a pianist, and he has been studying with Nina Kelly since 2015.
