Afghanistan-Australia People to People Dialogue

The Afghanistan-Australia People to People Dialogue, launched in 2017 by the Afghan Embassy in Canberra, is a cross-cultural platform designed to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries in the realms of culture, politics, trade and strategy. It involves members of the Afghan and Australian governments and communities and has held events across numerous Australian cities. 2017 Dialogue The inaugural dialogue was held in November 2017, and comprised delegations from Afghanistan, the Australian government, think tanks, academia, students, activists, Afghan Australians, journalists and representatives from civil society and private business. Notable attendees included the Afghan Ambassador to Australia, Wahidullah Waissi, the former Afghan Minister of Agriculture, and Lotfullah Najafizada, head of TOLONews. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Waissi stated "Such dialogue will be an important means for Australia and Afghanistan to identify areas of greater future cooperation not only on inter-governmental level, but also to foster people-to-people awareness and understanding between citizens."
