The Acela circuit is an informal designation of four United States Federal Circuit courts that are served by Amtrak's Acela train line. The Acela circuit covers the eastern seaboard states of Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut and Washington D.C. and therefore covers the First, Second, Third and D.C. Circuit courts. This is eight of the original thirteen colonies that became the United States. Currently, seven of the nine justices of the Supreme Court of the United States, have served on the "Acela Circuit". In order of seniority, they are: <UL> Chief Justice John Roberts - D.C. Circuit Antonin Scalia - D.C. Circuit Clarence Thomas - D.C. Circuit Ruth Bader Ginsburg - D.C. Circuit Stephen Breyer - First Circuit Samuel Alito - Third Circuit Sonia Sotomayor - Second Circuit </UL> The only justices currently sitting that have not served on the Acela Circuit are John Paul Stevens (Seventh Circuit) and Anthony Kennedy (Ninth Circuit).
