Early life and education
Jagat Guru Thakur Shree Abhiram Paramahansa Dev was born on 18 January 1904 in a small village "Bhoipada" (Karamala Gramapada). The holy place is now famous as KARAMALA, which is under Jodaapadar P.O., Bramhagiri P.S., Kanasa Block of Puri district in Odisha (Orissa), India. The village is situated beside the rivers Daya, Bhargabi & Luna. Karamala is around 15 K.M. from Brahamagiri, 40 K.M. from Pipili, 60 Km. from Puri and 75 K.M. from Bhubaneswar. He is a Hindu spiritual leader, who is revered as a Sant by his followers, and also know as “Shree Thakur”.
Biography
His father was "Satyabadi Pattanayak" and mother was "Radha Devi". He was the third son of his parents. His elder brothers were Lokonath and Somonath. His uncle was Gopinath and grandfather was Bharat. "Arjuna Pattanayak" and "Subrata" were closed relative of Radha Devi. Arjuna & Subrata have no child. So, they survive Abhiram Paramahansa in childhood. Arjuna & Subrata called him as "Binori". When Binori was 7 years old, Arjuna passed out and then Subrata. Then Binori again came back to his real parent Satyabadi & Radha Devi.
Early life
He has no interest on education in his childhood. He always has shown interest in spiritual and devotional activity. At the age of seven he escape from his father’s school and sit two days in meditation without food and water in his room by closing the door. This was the first step of his spiritual journey. After completing his primary education he became a school teacher. He left the teachership after some days. At the age of eleven, he started meditation in "Khandaba bana" near Brahmagiri. Brahmagiri is famous for Lord Alarnath. There he also worshipped goddess Vanadurga (Purnamasi). He became a great Sadhu by the grace of goddess Purnamasi. He returned to Bhoipada.
Search for knowledge
After spending a sort time at Bhoipada Sadhana Mandir (worship temple), he started his hill and jungle journey for search the truth. In his two years journey, he discovers so many un-known god, goddess, temple, sadhu & sanyasi. He started from Ganjam district with visiting to Maa Tata Tarini in Taratarini hill. After visiting the hill area of Ganjam, he moved to Dhenkal district. There he visits Kapilash, Saptasajya, Sukinda etc. Then in Cuttack district, he visit Mahabina hill, Chandikhol hill etc. He also visited Jalouka cave. In his way he spends the rainy season in the Ashram of famous saint Hadidas in the Sidha Giri hill.
He became very popular. He started spiritual renaissance everywhere with many disciples, sanyasis and devotees. His followers with love called him "Shree Thakur". Shree Thakur moved from village to village in Odisha (Orissa) for tattling his ideology, divine thought and spiritual values among the people.
Spiritual Life
Thakur Shree Abhiram Paramahansa Dev was a great spiritual leader. He has created numbers of disciples and followers. His thought is implanted in the minds and hearts of the people of Odisha (Orissa). He had started a religious and cultural movement in Odisha (Orissa) to create renaissance among the people. He occupied a high position in the religious world and occupied a great place in the heart of the common people. His outstanding contribution towards secularism, mankind, and social reform would be remembered for ever. His contribution in the field of literature, religion, peace, love and brotherhood was incomparable. He was a great lover of truth and peace.
Freedom struggles
Abhiram Paramahansa Dev was the only Odia (Oriya) saint who struggled for independence of motherland. He was not only a well known spiritual leader and famous social reformer but also a great freedom fighter. He sacrificed his life for the sake of Mother India. He is highly respected by the people of Odisha (Orissa) due to his outstanding contribution in the freedom struggle, social reform and religious teaching. His heroic role during the period of great national movement recognized him a partiot and true lover of mother India.
Books
Abhiram Paramahansa Dev had written so many books. "Kali Bhagabata" was the best book among his literature. Some patriotic elements are available in this great book, which admired the greatness of Shree Thakur in the freedom struggle of India. When Shree Thakur was at Ichhapur village of Cuttack district he wrote the first six chapters of the historic book during the period 1928 and 1932. First six chapters of this book were published from “Aasha Press”, Berhampur in the end of 1933. Publisher of the book was “Mr. Sashibhusan Rath” and composer was “Shri Shyamsundar Gantayata”. The book Kali Bhagabata, criticised the harmful activities of the mighty Britishers. In the critical period of the national movement this book had much impact on the people.
Samadhi Mandir
Samadhi Mandir named as “Shanti Aanandaashram” is situated at Shanti Dham, Karmala. This is nearer (around 0.5 K.M.) to the birth place of Abhiram Paramahansa Dev. He has started his spiritual journey in this place in his early life. A very beautiful temple also created at Shanti Dham, where the deity of Shree Thakur worshiped. A temple of Maa Purnamashi is there near to main temple. There is a very small temple called “Chatta”, where he sits for meditation during his stay at Karmala. Shanti Dham is headed by one of the senior saint of the ashram and the designation is called “Acharya”. Charitable hospital, post office, dharmashala are there in the compound of Shanti Dham.
