21st Century Education is a phrase that has now been widely used in the media as well as by educational researchers who are all claiming to attempt a description of what education should look like as humanity entered into the 21st century. It implies that educational models must now be different than they were previously and that old models no longer satisfy the needs of humanity as it evolves into a global society. Searching this term on the Internet turns up more than 23 million results. A general commonality between these descriptors is, however, that educational systems must be based on different premises than it was prior to the expiration of the 20th century. Some of the most common factors that have influenced these premises are: 1) the increased interconnectedness of all the peoples of the world in the areas of the economy, the environment, human demography and geopolitical frameworks, to name a few. 2) the advancement of communications and information technology that has made the world "Flat"- the Internet being the prime vehicle. 3) the increased need for skills of global understanding and awareness to help solve the problems of the modern world which no nation can resolve alone. 4) the extensive use of online educational sources that have outdated the brick and mortar classrooms giving rise to anytime, anywhere education that pools resources from around the world.
