2024 Akhnoor attack

The 2024 Akhnoor attack took place on 28 October 2024, when militants opened fire on an Indian Army vehicle in the Battal area of Akhnoor, located in Jammu and Kashmir. The attack resulted in the deaths of three Indian Army soldiers and the injury of two others. The attackers, believed to be three militants, were engaged by security forces, leading to a massive search operation in the region.
Background
A week prior to the Akhnoor attack, militants ambushed army vehicles in the Baramulla district, resulting in the deaths of 4 soldiers and 2 porters killed.
The Attack
On the morning of 28 October, at around 7:00 AM, militants fired upon an Indian Army vehicle in the Battal area of Akhnoor. According to initial reports, the attackers fired multiple rounds at the vehicle, killing three soldiers and injuring two others.
Security forces, including the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, sealed off the Battal area and launched aerial and ground searches to locate the militants.
Aftermath
The Indian Army launched a large-scale search operation immediately after the attack. The area around the Battal sector, including nearby villages, was cordoned off. Security forces utilized drones and helicopters for aerial surveillance, and a ground search was initiated to trace the attackers.
Reactions
No militant group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but similar attacks in the region have often been linked to groups such as The Resistance Front or People's Anti-Fascist Front.<ref name="PGurus" />
