142 West 109th St. is a modest, five story apartment building on West 109th Street in New York City between Amsterdam Avenue and Columbus Avenue, known for being a former residence of now-President Barack Obama. President Obama lived in apartment 3E when he was a junior at Columbia University in 1981. According to the New York Times, the third-floor, walk-up apartment "is remarkably commonplace... it has wood floors, some exposed brick, a kitchen area, and one bedroom — with a windowless office that doubles as a second.
