The 11th Commando Division is a part of the 110th Battalion of the Special Military Forces. It consists of a handful of young and enthusiastic soldiers recruited in 2009. The average age for these youngsters is 22. The 11th Division has been trained by the finest. The army had recruited a small number of handpicked recruits and provided them Special Forces training in a matter of 6 months. These young men are known for their guerilla attitude and tougher than regular soldiers in more ways than one. The soldiers were divided into teams of 6-8. The 11th Division had only 3 teams and is known for setting records in training courses. These teams are deployed in direct action and reconnaissance both inside Bangladesh as well as globally. They are capable of undertaking various missions such as: • Anti piracy. • Counter insurgency. • Counter narcotics. • Counter terrorism. • Covert insertions/extractions. • Hostage rescue and personnel recovery. • Hydrographic reconnaissance. • Intelligence gathering. • Raid. • Underwater demolition. Training To join this maritime special operations forces unit members undergo one of the extreme mental, psychical and advance weapons training at special warfare schools in Bangladesh and abroad where the average failure rate is approximately 70%. Instructors of these schools are known for their “brutality”, which are designed to mould individual candidates in to the finest warriors. Advance training for instructors are primarily conducted in undisclosed areas of the country. Weapons & Equipment All types of weapons, nightvision sights, ballistic helmets, ballistic jackets, underwater gear and vehicles are available to teams for completion of their missions. Typically a commando may be seen armed with 5.56x45mm NATO Colt M4 Carbine SOPMOD, Daewoo K1 assault rifle, Daewoo K2 assault rifle, Daewoo K7 9mm sub-machine gun, HK MP5 9mm submachine gun , sniper rifles, 9mm semi-automatic pistols and locally manufactured 7.62mm assault rifles such as Type 56 and BD-08. At least 21 US-built Defender Class fast boats are operated by the forces. They are also provided with helicopters and submersible vehicles for undertaking stealthy insertion and extraction operations. The 3 teams under the 11th division are as follows: Gun Warriors Cpt.
